Dansíþróttafélag Kópavogs
Dansíþróttafélag Kópavogs, commonly abbreviated DÍK, is a DanceSport club in Kópavogur. Founded in January 2001, it operates within Dansskóli Sigurðar Hákonarsonar and is a member club of the Icelandic DanceSport Federation.
The parent dance school was established in 1980 and has remained active in Kópavogur throughout its history. DÍK supports the school's dancers through coaching development, competition assistance, performances, training trips and fundraising.
Classes and programs
Programs are available for children from age three, older children, adult beginners and experienced dancers. Teaching covers International Standard dances such as Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Foxtrot and Quickstep, together with International Latin dances including Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba and Jive.
The school also provides individual tuition, wedding-dance preparation and regular open practice evenings for adults and competition couples.
Competitive DanceSport
DÍK has competition groups for dancers of different ages and development levels, with group coaching held several times per week. Club couples participate in Icelandic championships and cup events in Standard, Latin and 10-Dance, as well as international competitions.
The club has repeatedly won the team classification at UMSK regional events and won the Icelandic DanceSport Federation's combined annual points competition in 2022. These historical results reflect a long-running focus on youth development and team participation.
