Dansfélagið Hvönn
Dansfélagið Hvönn is a dance club in Kópavogur founded on 21 October 1995. It is a member of the Icelandic DanceSport Federation and has operated from its current purpose-built premises at Ögurhvarf 4a since 2020.
The club serves recreational and competitive dancers across several age groups. Its ballroom pathway begins with children's classes and continues through competition groups and advanced training.
Classes and programs
- Dance and movement for children ages three to five
- Introductory ballroom dancing for children
- Competition groups and an advanced championship group
- Standard and Latin classes for adult couples
- Breakdance
- Adapted dance and Special Olympics groups for dancers with disabilities
Beginner and advanced adult groups cover Standard and Latin dancing. The club's adapted programs tailor teaching to each participant's movement and ability.
Coaching and competition
Hvönn's staff includes coaches for children's groups, competition dancers, adults, breakdance and Special Olympics. The club has developed Icelandic champions and supports dancers competing through the national DanceSport structure.
