VfL Bochum 1848 e.V. Tanzsportabteilung
VfL Bochum 1848's dance-sport department is a multi-discipline dance club in the heart of Germany's Ruhr region. Founded in 1934 and formerly known as Ruhr-Casino Bochum, it provides recreational and competitive training for children, young people, adults, and older dancers.
The club combines a friendly community environment with structured athletic development. Dancers can enter through early-years movement or recreational classes and progress into solo, couple, formation, or team competition.

The five Standard dances are Slow Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep. Latin training covers Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Rumba, Paso Doble, and Jive. New dancers can join both solo and partner pathways, and entry into several groups is possible throughout the year.
Ballroom and Latin
Standard training is led by Udo Schmidt, a DTV Trainer A, DOSB diploma coach, S-class adjudicator, and qualified ADTV dance teacher. The program includes foundation and competition training, while the mixed recreational class welcomes couples who want to develop Standard and Latin without competing.
Latin classes range from children's and youth training through basic technical work and advanced competition coaching. The A-Team represents VfL Bochum in the German Latin formation league system and competes with full-team choreography, synchronized movement, athletic performance, and musical storytelling.
Additional competitive disciplines
The Jazz and Modern/Contemporary section combines athletic dance with creative choreography and competes through its Bintou and Sisu teams. Performance Cheer and Urban Dance provide further team-based pathways for different age groups and performance goals.
VfL Bochum also hosts DanceSport events, including Latin formation league tournaments, and offers trial sessions for prospective members. Contact the club with the dancer's age, experience, and preferred discipline so the team can recommend an appropriate group.
