About

Tanzen in Kiel e.V.

Tanzen in Kiel e.V., often shortened to TiK, is a nonprofit dance club founded in 1996. The organization describes itself as Germany's largest nonprofit dance association and welcomes recreational dancers, families, children, young people, seniors, and competitive athletes.

TiK is a club rather than a commercial dance school. It combines professional instruction with a community-based membership model and offers opportunities to dance socially, train for competition, improve fitness, perform, or simply explore a new style.

Children and youth

The club runs a large children’s and youth department, with introductory movement activities for very young children and dozens of age-appropriate groups. Older children can study Standard and Latin recreationally, dance solo, or enter competition preparation in partnered or formation disciplines.

The club explicitly welcomes all gender combinations in children's partner-dance classes and places enjoyment, learning, and confidence ahead of fixed traditional roles.

Competitive DanceSport

TiK supports competition dancers in Standard, Latin, Ten Dance, Discofox, Rock and Roll, Hip-Hop, and wheelchair DanceSport. Its program includes introductory competition training, D/C-level development, advanced B/A/S training, free practice, and preparation for national and World DanceSport Federation events.

The club also stages DanceSport events, including the Kiel Pokal during Kiel Week.

Inclusive dancing

Wheelchair-dance groups welcome beginners, advanced dancers, and competitors with or without a standing partner. Participants can dance individually, as couples, or in groups to Standard, Latin, and popular music. The club also provides specialist movement and social-dance opportunities for older adults and people with dementia.

DanceSport center

The Tanzen in Kiel center contains six dance studios. One is approved as a competition ballroom, while the facility also includes changing rooms, trainer facilities, lounges, coffee kitchens, office space, and on-site parking. The club describes it as one of Germany's largest dedicated DanceSport centers.
